In 1989, a family tradition was carried from the Tuscan village of Cercina, Italy to Washington D.C., combining the warmth of the traditional Italian dining experience with signature family recipes from the original Trattoria i Ricchi. Over the past twenty-one years, Christianne Ricchi has received numerous awards and the highest national ratings for her skilled and consistent management of the i Ricchi kitchen and dining room. In 1997, President Luigi Scalfaro of Italy awarded i Ricchi with the most prestigious honor of Italian dining, the INSEGNA DEL RISTORANTE ITALIANO, which confirmed it’s status as one of the best Italian restaurants in the world.

Attentive service and a warm, rustic atmosphere showplace the straight forward dishes of the Tuscan region, which include prime aged beef grilled over live embers, simple pasta dishes and risottos, grilled seafood and fowl, freshly baked bread, and homemade desserts. Tortelloni al Burro e Salvia - thinly rolled pasta enclosing generous amounts of ricotta and spinach that is handmade fresh daily and dressed with a butter and fresh sage sauce - is a Ricchi family favorite and can be found on our regular menu.

In addition to these diverse offerings, our menu features a selection of daily specials that include fresh fish and classic cuts of meat such as prime rib and veal shank. The open kitchen meets the dining room at our wood-burning hearth, which serves as the focal point of the restaurant and the source of the live oak embers that produce the signature taste of our grilled items. The flames of the oven are complimented by the golden hues of the walls, Della Robbia-style murals, and terracotta floors that come together to complete the Tuscan experience.

Whether helping our guests create a unique family meal, arranging a personalized menu for a private party in one of our special dining rooms, or selecting the perfect accompaniment from our award-winning Italian wine list, our well-trained staff reflects the commitment of the Ricchi name to live up to our worldwide reputation as a premier Italian dining establishment. We invite you to visit us!
